Before I describe the different naturist experiences to you, a little about Palm Springs.
Palm Springs is a "hip" place for all ages. During the 80's people seeking the sun drifted to other desert communities. But no community could re-create the history and mystique of Palm Springs. In the 90's people began coming back to the "Springs" because of its "main street" feel. Here, in a relatively small area, people stroll along a beautiful boulevard sprinkled with palm trees, great dining, entertainment, galleries, and shopping. You have a world class environment backed up by Mt. San Jacinto, towering almost two miles into a turquoise sky, and kissed with sensuous warm desert breezes. You can enjoy Palm Springs for a day, a weekend, a month or a lifetime. And, if you choose, you can enjoy this warm friendly resort community naturally - sans clothes at one of the naturist resorts.
Nude sunbathing in the desert isn't a new phenomenon. This incredible desert environment with abundant hot springs and rustling palm trees has always inspired people to go skinny dipping. Palm Springs has always been a place where people have dived naked into private swimming pools.Blocked from public view by vine covered block walls you are open to the desert air and in plain view of the mountain that rises from the desert floor. Most people would tell you that this climate begs you to toss your clothes aside and dive naturally into the refreshing waters of private secluded pools. Why it took so long for the natural lifestyle to become the focus of private enterprise, I can't tell you. But in the early part of the 1990's several entrepreneurs saw in Palm Springs an opportunity to provide world class accommodations for people who like to enjoy the sun naturally - without clothing.
Historically people have thought of nude recreationists as people who frequent nudist colonies or nudist camps. These facilities were typically primitive and located in isolated areas. The times have changed. A nationwide poll shows that 80% of Americans believe people should be able to enjoy, without interference from officials, nude sunbathing at a beach designated for that purpose . In addition, responses to other questions in the poll suggest more than 51 million Americans have gone skinny dipping or sunbathed nude in a mixed-gender group. We're not talking old fogies here, either. Younger membership, ages 18 to 34, has increased 50 percent since 1994. Clearly nude recreation is becoming more mainstream in the United States. We have been to three of the nudist resorts, Desert Sun, Terra Cotta, and Sea Mountain. Each offers a unique experience different from the others.

Desert Sun , formerly Desert Shadows, is set amid landscaped grounds and tucked away behind a private gate, the clothing-optional, adults-only Desert Sun Resort is in the Movie Colony district, 1 mile from downtown Palm Springs and 2.5 miles from Palm Springs Airport.Catering to couples seeking a romantic and relaxing getaway, this upscale nudist resort features 3 heated outdoor pools, 2 jacuzzis, a day spa, tennis court, a restaurant, and a bar. Evenings, guests can gather around one of the fire pits for cozy conversation.
Terra Cotta Inn is a clothing optional resort. That means you can wear clothing if you're not yet ready to bare it all to the sun. This is an intimate boutique spa with just 17 units. The architecture is classic Palm Springs.
There are three nude/clothing optional resorts in Desert Hot Springs.

Areolas (Anahata)- Describes itself as is a natural hot springs fed, zen, boutique retreat located just north of Palm Springs in the vortex known internationally as “Spa Town USA”, Desert Hot Springs, CA. Thoughtfully designed as a peaceful place for couples and women to reconnect with themselves and each other. Created to bring back a sense of balance and peace. Focused on stimulating the seven energy chakras and heightening the five senses, sight, sound, scent, taste, and touch.
Sea Mountain - Trip Advisor ranks the Sea Mountain Nude Spa as the #1 specialty resort in Desert Hot Springs. It differs from the other nude/clothing optional resorts in that its atmosphere encourages spontaneous erotic behavior - behavior that in the other resorts is a "No, No," is a "Yes, Yes."
